Charcuterie/Serving Board Care

Charcuterie/Serving boards

Your one-of-a-kind DMWC charcuterie board came to you finished with a food safe mineral oil and beeswax finish. Solid wood is porous and and can unevenly take on moisture and warp if not cared for properly To keep it looking its best, here are a few tips:

  • Do not use your charcuterie board for cutting. Heavy cutting will leave unsightly knife marks.
  • After use, wash with mild soap and water and dry immediately. Allow to completely air dry in an open area. It’s best to keep your board out on display for optimal moisture balance.
  • Periodically apply a protective coating such as a mineral oil or board conditioner. After cleaning the board and allowing it to fully dry, rub the mixture in with a clean cloth. Allow to dry for a few minutes and then buff off. Allow to dry completely before use. This will keep the board looking beautiful and protect it from moisture which can cause warping.
  • Use kosher salt and halved lemons to get rid of odours which may develop with frequent use over time.
  • Do not use harsh abrasives on your board.
  • Do not apply vegetable or olive oils. These can become rancid and cause your board to smell bad!
  • If your board becomes heavily stained, scratched or cracked, contact us and we will find a solution for you!
  • Use your board often and repeat above steps as needed to keep it looking awesome!

Cutting Board Care

Cutting Boards

The structure of a cutting board differs in ways that make it more able to take the abuse that knives will exert on the board. With that said, cutting board care is very similar to Charcuterie Board care above with a couple exceptions

  • Unlike charcuterie boards, of course, use your cutting board to cut!
  • Knife marks will appear over time and are part of the appearance of a well used cutting board
  • Use mineral oil or board butter often to keep it looking new
  • If your cutting board becomes heavily knife marked or uneven due to continuous use over time, contact us and we can renew it for you for a small fee
  • Dark woods such as walnut will lighten in colour over time and will need more regular maintenance (than lighter woods such as maple) to keep them looking their best
